AI’s analytical power is becoming indispensable in tackling complex problems. In fact, it’s ability to recognize patterns and predict outcomes is being applied to every corner of our economy.
It is eminently logical that complex systems are open to fraud, and those systems often use that complexity to camouflage it. Ad Fraud this year alone will reach over $100 Billion, according to Juniper Research. That’s with a B. “You would think losing over $100 billion in one year to fraud would cause some kind of angst in the ad community. Not a bit. We have normalized stupidity and incompetence to such an extent that all you hear are crickets,” – my boy Bobby Hoff.
Ah, but all it should take is to let loose one Artificial Narrow Intelligent Programmatic Fraud Factory Busting Bot to blare a floodlight on the culprits…. and we’re good, no??
If companies like Double Verify, Integral Ad Science and Human Security get paid to stamp out fraud can’t those companies use AI to determine what they’re clients are buying, who they bought it from, what they paid and what they got? Or would they put themselves out of business?
Can’t companies like Alphabet and Meta, who are in the process of automating ad creation with AI-powered systems to personalize and optimize campaigns (by 2026, “all ads on Meta will be made by AI”, said the Zuck’ster) train those same AI ad agents to sniff out fraud? Or would they be cutting their own throat?
Can’t Agency holding companies that broker AdTech platforms use AI to root out fraud? Or would that eat into the bottom line as it splattered egg on their face?
AI is being hailed as a task automating, margin enhancing, process optimizing, supply chain managing, decision making improving revolution – yet nobody is talking about aiming it’s high-powered gaze on the mysterious black box of programmatic advertising…
I wonder why?
