Living on a lighted stage or attaining stardom, approaches the unreal for those who think and feel. Micro-stardom allows everyone to be their own producer broadcasting content featuring themselves. The problem of course is that we’ve all been cast in an unlikely role, ill-equipped to act and with insufficient tact. As our avatar becomes frayed outward toward the observable edge of cyberspace it becomes harder to keep it intact; a vicious and ironic cycle which creates a never ending curation of our digital selves. Portraying ourselves through a fish eye lens we pretend that strangers are friends. A preoccupation with peer acceptance undermines our efforts at every turn; instead of making us feel valued, we are feed a steady dose of envy. Is social Media a gilded cage or merely an extension of the unacknowledged need we hope that fame will fix? The masks we wear to “seem” obscure the underlying theme .. we all yearn for the real relation with that which can’t be seen.

In the meantime, all the worlds indeed a stage and we are merely players, performers and portrayers.
