It’s National Cyber Security Month!
I know, it’s not as exciting as National Tight End Day (which was yesterday 10/27/19), but it’s still awesome. In 2004, the Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance launched National Cyber Security Awareness Month in an effort to help Americans stay safe and secure online. But to me, it’s really just a month long observance of how irreverently F*cked we are. I meant let’s face it – Emerging technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G are creating opportunities for businesses to implement innovative solutions and make our lives convenient and pleasurable… But, But, But .. they’re also creating new ways for sick insidious psychopaths to destroy civilization as we know it. We are told we should welcome the wonders of an increasingly complex and connected world. “Embrace change”, I believe they say. Don’t get distracted by the chaos, but use technology for empowerment. “Be fearless”. Oh that’s rich!
Resigning ourselves to the surveillance status quo doesn’t sound too bad today, but it’s going to become harder as vehicles start accelerating out of control through guard rails and medical robots put surgery into the hands of black hat hackers. The internet is like that Facehugger thing in the movie Alien, except not so blatantly obvious that it’s penetrating our cranium and impregnating us with stuff we most definitely don’t need. Cyber Security Month is just a reminder that some day it will erupt violently from the host, resulting in death, or worse… like in the Matrix; a dystopian future where humanity is unknowingly trapped inside a simulation!!
Oh how I long for National COPD Month…
